Herb - Marshmallow skin care ingredient
Marshmallow (Althea officinalis)

Macadamia Nut Oil (Macadamia ternifolia):
Light oil native to Australia. Macadamia Nut oil is the only plant oil that contains high amounts of palmitoleic acid, which is also normally found in the sebum of human skin, and the oil therefore has great affinity to the skin. It absorbs well into the skin, is highly emollient and soothing contains magnesium and thiamin.

Malva Flowers, Blue (Malva sylvestris):
Though less useful than marsh mallow, common mallow is an effective demulcent. The flowers and leaves are emollient and good for sensitive areas of the skin. Mallow is beneficial in the treatment of painful swellings and is used as a digestive and diuretic herb, as well as in the making of an external lotion for acne.

Mandarin, Pure Essential Oil of (Citrus reticulate):
Mandarin essential oil ahs a sweet, citrus scent, with a mildly floral note. Its properties and scent are mild enough to be used in children and infants, pregnant women and the elderly, making it a wonderful oil to add to specialty skin care and cosmetic treatment preparations. In skin care and cosmetic lotions and creams, it is used to treat skin disorders and rashes, while inhalation treats insomnia, hyperactivity in children, restlessness and nervous tension.

Mango Butter (Mangiferia indica):
Taken from the de-shelled fruit kernels of the Mango fruit. High in unsaponifiables and is similar in nature to Shea Butter. It has emollient properties, high oxidative ability, wound healing, and regenerative activity due to its high unsaponiable. It is a soft solid with a very sweet scent.

Mannitol:
Mannitol is a sugar alcohol, that has humectant (moisture trapping) properties, and very low hydroscopicity (does not attract moisture from the air).

Marjoram, Pure Essential Oil of (Origanum marjorana):
Marjoram essential oil has a sweet, spicy/herbal scent, and is most widely know as a powerful sedative in the natural treatment of insomnia. It also helps to relieve muscle and joint pain, reduces inflammation and relaxes tight muscles.

Marshmallow Root (Althea officinalis):
Marshmallow Root is emollient, softening and soothing. It has been used for inflammations, sore skin, blemishes, bruises, strains and sprains. It has been used for hundreds of years to heal wounds.

Meadowsweet (Filipendula ulmaria ):
Natural source of the BHA (Beta Hydroxy Acid) salicylic acid, the cleansing diuretic effect has given meadowsweet a reputation for clearing the skin and resolving rashes.

Melatonin:
A hormone secreted by the pineal gland in response to sunlight, is known to have antimutagenic and oncostatic actions. This beneficial action of melatonin has been explained in terms of its ability to scavenge free radicals and to augment the activities of antioxidant enzymes. It has been shown to suppress radiation induced erythema.

Methionine:
A sulfur containing essential amino acid and belongs to a group of compounds call lipotropics; the others in this group include choline, inositol and betaine. Methionine is a great antioxidant as the sulfur it supplies inactivates free radicals.

Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM):
Methylsulfonylmethane is found naturally in foods, but heat or dehydration destroys it. Used to treat inflammatory disorders, musculoskeletal pain, arthritis, allergies, autoimmune diseases, and cancer. Also used as an antimicrobial and an immune system stimulant. Women who are pregnant or breast feeding are advised to avoid taking MSM as a supplement we are not certain if that also applies to using skin care products that contain MSM.

Milk Thistle Organic (Silybum marianum):
Milt Thistle is a powerful antioxidant that has healing properties and fights harm from free radicals. The active chemical component in the herb is silybin, which functions as an antioxidant and is one of the most potent liver protective agents known. Silybin is part of the chemical structure of the flavonolignan silymarin. Silymarin has the ability to increase the intracellular concentration of glutathione. Milk Thistle is also an antioxidant that is more potent than vitamins C and E. Most studies have focused on the isolated flavonolignan complex silymarin which includes (incl. silybin, silydianin, silychristin). Mechanisms are multifactorial: silymarin acts to stabilize hepatocyte membranes and block receptor binding of various toxins and drugs. Antioxidant activity is also hepatoprotective - in vivo and in vitro studies show that silymarin has free radical scavenging activity and enhances superoxide dismutase action in erythrocytes and lymphocytes. Silymarin also protects against glutathione depletion and increases protein synthesis by hepatocytes when there is damage to parenchymatous tissue.

Monoi de Tahiti Oil:
A truly exotic oil from Polynesia. The word Monoi means scented. Research has shown that it accelerates and maintains tanning and encourages repair on damaged hair.

Myrrh, Pure Essential Oil of (Commiphora myrrha):
Another ancient and well-respected essential oil, Myrrh has a warmly spicy scent with a sharp medicinal top note. It is used in skin care and cosmetic preparations for wrinkles and aging skin because of its ability to revitalize and tone skin, and promote new cell formation. Myrrh essential oil was used in historical times for its powerful anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, anti-fungal and astringent properties, in the treatment and care of infections and wounds.
