Herb - Peppermint
Peppermint (Menthe pipeirta)

Paba (Para Aminobenzoic Acid):
Important for the formation of red blood cells. Aids in the conversion of protein into energy. Necessary for healthy skin, and hair pigmentation.

Palmarosa, Pure Essential Oil of (Cymbopogan martinii):
It helps calm the nervous system and acts as a natural balancer. It aids in digestion, helps with skin problems, treats acne, rejuvenates mature skin, is good for stretch marks and both oily and dry skin. Emotionally, Palmarosa essential oil helps to release anger and grief. It is antifungal and antiviral.

Palmitic Acid (Hexadecanoic acid):
An organic acid found as a glyceride, palmitin, in all animal fats, and partly as glyceride and partly uncombined in palm oil. The cetyl ester is spermaceti, and the myricyl ester is largely present in beeswax. It is most conveniently obtained from olive oil, after removal of the oleic acid (q.v.), or from Japanese beeswax, which is its glyceride. Artificially it may be prepared by heating cetyl alcohol with soda lime to 270 or by fusing oleic acid with potassium hydrate. Used in skin care and cosmetics as a moisturizing agent.

Papain:
An enzyme found in the papaya fruit, can chemically digest intercellular bonds. Papain has been studied in the treatment of hypertrophic scars, and it can be used to exfoliate keratotic skin.

Parsley, pure essential oil (Petroselinum sativum):
Parsley essential oil has anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and antioxidant properties.

Passionflower, herb and extract (Passiflora incarnata):
Produces soothing effects on the skin and has anti-inflammatory properties. Also used for menopausal and menstrual problems.

Passionfruit Oil (Passiflora incarnata):
Exotic oil is extracted from the fruit kernels of the Passionflower plant. There has not been much research surrounding the use of Passionfruit oil, but it has been met with much fanfare because it produces a soothing effect on the skin, and displays anti-inflammatory qualities.

Patchouli, Organic Pure Essential Oil of (Pogostemon cablin):
Patchouli’s rich, warm, spicy, and earthy aroma was made popular in the 60’s in perfumes and incenses. When inhaled, it is anti-depressive, aphrodisiac and mildly calming. In skin care, Patchouli shows its strong side as a potent anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal agent. It supports the regeneration of new cells and tissues, and is excellent for dry, aging, wrinkled skin and for the treatment of acne, psoriasis, burns and wounds.

Peppermint, Pure Essential Oil of and Herb Organic (Menthe piperita):
No need to describe the scent of this popular essential oil! One of the most delicious smelling of the mint family, Peppermint is cooling to the body, and energizing and uplifting to the mind. It is a potent anti-nauseant, and works extremely well to quell morning sickness. It is also a decongestant and disinfectant for cold and sinus congestion. Its anti-inflammatory cleansing properties make it the ideal ingredient in skin care and cosmetic preparations for oily, acne-prone skin, though it is wonderfully toning and cleansing for all skin types. When added to foot lotions and creams, Peppermint essential oil serves the dual purpose of cooling and soothing overheated skin, and keeping a check on fungal and bacterial growth.

Pettigraine, Pure Essential Oil of (Citrus aurantium):
This oil is obtained from the leaves of the bitter orange tree and has a fresh floral citrus scent with a woody herbaceous undertone. In skin care and cosmetic preparations it helps to clear up blemishes and pimples. Useful for greasy hair and skin.

Phenonip:
Commonly used preservative system in skin care products. Some on-line company's list this product under it's commercial name and do not list the components: phenoxyethanol, methylparaben, butylparaben, ethylparaben, propylparaben.

Phospholipids:
Lecithin, found in soybeans and other seeds as well as in eggs, contains several Phospholipids (PLs) like Phosphatidylcholine (PC), Phosphatidylethanolamine (PE), Phosphatidylinositol (PI) or Phosphatidylserine (PS). Phospholipids are life-essential membrane nutrients. They are critical building blocks for all body cells and the most abundant constituents of the lipid bilayer of each cell membrane. Two fatty acid chains and a phosphate molecule bound to a glycerol backbone make up PLs.

Phosphatidylcholine:
Is the most prominent exponent of the phospholipids and is extracted from lecithin in a rather expensive manufacturing process. Unlike its base substance lecithin, phosphatidylcholine mixed with water spontaneously generates cell-like structures whose membranes are built up in bilayers just like in natural cell structures. These hollow bodies are called liposomes and can only be seen with the help of an electron microscope. Furthermore, it is possible to encapsulate active agents in liposomes and thus penetrate them into the skin.

Phytosphingosine:
Basic molecules, which occur in free form in young skin and also as a constituent part of ceramides. They play a decisive role in the growth and differentiation of the keratinozytes. Furthermore, it has been possible to prove through scientific tests that even in very small concentrations they can fully prevent growth damaging and skin irritating bacteria. In addition they activate the biosyntheses of ceramides, have an anti-inflammatory and effective radical catcher effect (anti-oxidative). For anti-seborrhoeal acting products they are obtained from yeast in bio-technical process.

Plantain Extract and Infused Oil (Plantaginaceae plantago, major):
The leaves of the Plantain plant have anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties, and help soothe sore, inflamed membranes while providing some protection from infection. Mildly astringent, Plantain has traditionally been known as a treatment for diaper rash.

Polyphenols:
Polyphenolic compounds (i.e., catechins, flavonols, tioflavins), also known as epicatechins are antioxidant in nature. The compounds, tested against human keratinocyte cells stressed by UV-B irradiation, showed high antioxidative properties. Many laboratories have shown that topical treatment or oral consumption of polyphenols inhibits chemical or UV radiation induced skin tumorigenesis in different animal models. It possesses anti-inflammatory activity. One of the major and most chemopreventive constituents responsible for the biochemical effects is -epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) found in green tea. Genistein, the isoflavone found in soybeans, and pycnogenol, an extract of the bark of French maritime pine (Pinus pinaster), has been shown to significantly prolong tumor latency and to decrease tumor multiplicity with a potent ability to scavenge free radicals.

Potassium Sorbate
Potassium Sorbate is the potassium salt of sorbic acid, a naturally occuring organic acid that has been used extensively as a fungistatic agent for foods. Sorbic acid was first discovered in the Mountain Ash Tree (Sorbus aucuparia or Sorbus americana). When dissolved in water, potassium sorbate ionizes to form sorbic acid which is effective against yeasts, molds, and select bacteria, and is widely used at various levels in the cosmetics and food industries.

Polysorbate 80 NF ( Polyoxyethylene sorbitan monooleate)
A non-toxic, viscous oily liquid derived from oleic acid. Used to emulsify oils and water.

Proanthocyanadins:
Potent antioxidant phytonutrient found in some pine needles (pycnogenol) and grape seeds and skins (grape seed extract), it is especially synergistic with vitamin C making them more powerful antioxidants together than by themselves.

Progesterone:
Progesterone creams are being marketed as formulations that reverse chemical changes that occur with aging and that normalize the immune system. Some manufacturers claims also state that progesterone cream heals skin conditions, such as acne, psoriasis, rosacea, seborrhea and keratoses. None of these claims are supported by well designed studies.

Proline:
A non essential amino acid that can be synthesized from glutamic acid and does not require dietary sources. Proline improves skin texture, aids collagen formation and helps contain the loss of collagen during aging. Collagen in the skin contains hydroxyproline and hydroxylysine, which is formed from proline and lysine, in which ascorbic acid seems to be important in this conversion. Collagen is about 15% proline.

Propolis:
Propolis (also known as bee-propolis) is a resinous substance collected from the buds of some trees and flowers by bees to repair damage to their hives, and to protect the hive from disease. Its' main medicinal characteristics are halting the multiplication of numerous types of bacteria, antimycotic and anesthetic properties, fighting against virus infections, preventing and relieving inflammation, stimulating the formation of cells and tissue, acting as an anti-rheumatic, and boosting the immune system. The most abundant components of Propolis is polyphenols which are powerful antioxidants. It also promotes the healing of sores, wounds, acne, blemishes and eczema.
