Herb - Rose skin care and cosmetic ingredient
Rose (Rosa damascena)

Rice Bran Powder (Oryza Sativa):
Rice bran powder is a gentle, natural exfoliant for the face and body and is the old Japanese secret for smooth, soft skin. It is said to prevent wrinkles, quickly heal blemishes, absorb the dirt and oil from the pores, balance the natural oils in the skin, and moisturize.

Red Clover Extract (Trifolium pretense):
Red Clover is one of the most useful remedies for skin problems. It is useful for treatment of chronic skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis. Jethro Kloss calls it one of God’s blessings to man. It purifies blood, and also can be used for treating cancerous growths, leprosy and pellagra in combination with other herbs.

Resorcinal:
As an acne treatment, resorcinol has a keratolytic effect, causing dead cells to slough off. The top layer of skin is removed, and pores unclogged. It is often used with sulfur, to prevent the whiteheads and blackheads that sulfur causes as a side-effect when used to treat inflamed pimples.

Resveratrol:
A polyphenol found in red wine and the skin of grapes that is a naturally occurring antioxidant. Grape skins have been identified as the highest known source of Resveratrol.

Retinol (Vitamin A):
This is a derivative of vitamin A, and you will see that a lot of skin care products contain retinol. Retinol's stronger counterpart is tretinoin, which is the active ingredient in Retin-A and Renova. If your skin is too sensitive to use Retin-A, retinol is an excellent alternative. Here's why skin responds to skin care products with retinol: vitamin A has a molecular structure that's tiny enough to get into the lower layers of skin, where it finds collagen and elastin. Retinol is proven to improve mottled pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, skin texture, skin tone and color, and your skin's hydration levels. You may also hear about retinyl palmitate. This falls into the same family as retinol, but if the skin care product you choose contains retinyl palmitate, you will need to use more of this product than one that contains retinol to get the same effect.

Retinyl Palmitate Polypeptide (Vitamin A): Natural vitamin A complex. Vitamin A is an antioxidant that aids in the removal of free radicals that cells produce. Research shows that Vitamin A encourages collagen production in the dermis, which causes the middle layers in the skin to plump out and efficiently retain moisture.

Rosemary, Pure Essential Oil of (Rosmarinus officinalis, CT Verbenone):
Rosemary essential oil has a fresh, woody/herbal scent, and is anti-depressive and uplifting when inhaled. It is an excellent natural ingredient in scalp and hair treatments, strengthening thin hair and preventing hair loss. It is astringent and antiseptic, cleaning and toning to the skin and scalp, and it stimulates and improves skin circulation and metabolism. It is excellent for all skin types, particularly oily, acne-prone skin and eczema. Rosemary essential oil also speeds healing of wounds and burns. This variety of Rosemary essential oil is soft, warm, sweet, and most skin-friendly.

Rosemary Leaf & Rosemary Leaf Extract (Rosmarinus officinalis):
Rosemary leaf is widely known as a culinary herb, taken from a shrub native to the Mediterranean. As a skin care and cosmetic ingredient, Rosemary leaf is topically astringent, tonic, antiseptic and cleansing, and increases blood flow to an area.

Rosemary Oleoresin Extract:
Not to be confused with Rosemary essential oil, this is a thick, sticky oleoresin extract of Rosemary, and is used in Herbal Luxuries products as a co-preservative of oils and lotions. It is a naturally potent antioxidant, preventing vegetable, nut oils and butters from going rancid.

Rose Distillate (Rosa damascena):
The distillate water or hydrosol of rose. A widely used skin care ingredient. Can be used as is on the skin, mixed with glycerine or to replace all or part of the water in skin care formulations. A skin conditioning agent used in skin fresheners, moisturizers, body care products, masks, cleansers and more. We use only natural pure distillates in our skin care products and not artificially made floral waters.

Please see below for complete description of characteristics and medicinal properties.

Rose Floral Wax (Rosa damascena, Rosa centifolia):
See Floral Waxes to get more details on how these fragrant waxes are naturally made. There may be debate among some as to which is the most fragrant, of the two, we prefer the Rosa damascena, and use it in our massage oils.

Rose, Pure Essential Oil of (Rosa damascena, Bulgaria):
Along with Jasmine, Rose is one of the most popular, and expensive, of the precious essential oils. It takes 4,000 pounds of rose petals to make one pound of essential oil and that’s why it is so expensive. Its scent is intoxicating and rich, with a warm floral honey scent that is justly spicy. There is a reason it is so widely used in perfumery! When inhaled, Rose essential oil is an aphrodisiac, euphoric, anti-depressant, and mood regulator (excellent for PMS and post partum depression).
