Herb - Borage skin care ingredient
Borage (Borago officinalis)

Basil-Sweet (Ocimum basilicum):
Warm, spicy and herbal, with a hot, somewhat anise tasting bite. Generally used as an anti-spasmodic, anti-inflammatory, pain reliever, decongestant of the veins, and antibacterial. Sweet basil is great for aiding concentration and sharpening the senses.

Baking Soda (sodium Bicarbonate USP):
Functions in cosmetics and skin care as a deodorant agent, pH adjuster, buffering agent, abrasive, skin protectant and oral care ingredient.

Behentrimonium methosulfate:
Mild naturally derived from colza oil (canola) and used in hair care and other cosmetics as a conditioner, anti-static and detangler. It is so mild that it is recommended for use in skin care and leave-on baby products. Potent conditioner, excellent antistatic and detangling agent, able to restore and rebuild damaged hair (due to the properties of colza oil it does not coat but penetrates and substantiates the hair shaft), softening effect, antimicrobial properties.

Benzoyl Peroxide:
Benzoyl peroxide prevents the pores from clogging up by removing dead skin cells. It also kills the bacterium Propionibacterium acnes that causes acne. It has anti-inflammatory effects and reduces oxygen free radicals and fatty acids on the skin. It can be very irritating to some individuals so use with caution if you are sensitive.

Beta Glucan:
Beta-glucan is a fiber-type complex sugar (polysaccharide) derived from the cell wall of baker’s yeast, oat and barley fiber, and many medicinal mushrooms, such as maitake. Beta-glucan can recognize and kill tumor cells, remove cellular debris resulting from oxidative damage, speed up recovery of damaged tissue, and further activate other components of the immune system.

Beta Carotene:
Beta-carotene is a bright orange colored substance from plants that the body converts into vitamin A. It also acts as an antioxidant and an immune system booster.

BHT (Butylated Hyroxytoluene):
An anti-oxidant used to extend the shelf life and delay rancidity of oils and fats in foods and cosmetics. It is a white crystalline powder similar to refined sugar.

Bilberry Leaf and Extract(Vaccinium myrtillus ):
Contains a compound known as anthocyanin which is responsible for the color of its berries and other fruits. Anthocyanin is a flavonoid, or plant antioxidant. Flavonoids, such as anthocyanin found in bilberries and other fruits, chemical structure make it three to four times more potent antioxidant than vitamin C. Bruises, wrinkles and varicose veins may be helped with Bilberry extract. The pigment of the berry is from Proanthocyanoidins (PACs). PACs are water soluble which means they can travel where fat-soluble vitamins can not.
Beeswax (Cera Alba):
Beeswax is a natural secretion of the honeybees, and in its raw state, has the wonderful sweet aroma of fresh honey. The Beeswax used in skin care is carefully melted and filtered to remove any impurities while leaving some of the delicious scent behind. Beeswax helps to emulsify and thicken lotions and creams, hold together lip and body balms, and forms a protective barrier between your skin and the environment.

Benzoin Extract (Styax benzoin, S. tonkinensis):
The Benzoin tree produces a white sap which become hard and brittle, and yellow-brown in color. It is made up mainly of Benzoic acid, Benzoate and some vanilla. It is used in skin care for acne, eczema, and psoriasis. It is also used as a preservative in food. One very famous acne medication has benzoin as part of it’s name. Benzoin extract soothes, stimulates, comforts and warms.

Bergamot, Bergaptene Free—Pure Essential Oil of (Citrus bergamia):
Bergamot pure essential oil has a wonderful fresh, sweet-fruity scent with a herbal/balsamic undertone. When inhaled, Bergamot reduces anxiety, stress, and nervous tension, and helps alleviate depression. It also aids in relieving mental and emotional fatigue. Because it is mildly antiseptic and astringent while at the same time healing, Bergamot essential oil is added to skin care preparations for problem skin, acne, eczema and psoriasis. Regular Bergamot is a photo sensitizer, we use the Bergaptene Free version of the oil to significantly reduce any chance of sensitivity from sunlight.

Borage Seed Oil (Borago officinalis):
Borage oil, also known as Starflower Oil, is ancient oil which has been used in the Far East for thousands of years. Borage oil has in recent years caused a revolution in nutritional therapeutics. It has been found to be one of the richest sources of essential fatty acids known to humans. This oil has an extremely high content of GLA (an essential fatty acid). In addition, it is high in vitamins and minerals. As such it is used to promote normal, healthy skin function which can diminish with age. Borage oil is wonderful for creams and lotions for mature and damaged skin where regeneration of new skin cells is needed. It is also used to treat rheumatic problems, eczema and other chronic skin conditions. This oil is very expensive and as such is not used in the main stream cosmetics industry except by high end companies.

Borax (Sodium borate):
Borax works in many personal care products such as creams, skin care lotions, hair shampoos, etc. It is a mild alkali, used in combination with beeswax, that forms an emulsion in creams. When combined with guar gum and water it forms a gel.

Burdock Root Infused Oil & Extract, Organic (Arctium lappa):
Burdock is a thistled plant native to the Northern USA, Europe and Asia. The roots and leaves of the plant yield Burdock’s medicinal properties and it has been used for centuries as a remedy against skin cancers, acne, eczema and other skin ailments and diseases. It is mildly antibiotic and helps restore smoothness to the skin.
