Herb - Dandelion skin care ingredient
Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale)

Dandelion Extract (Taraxacum officinale):
Dandelion contains much that is beneficial to our bodies: bitter compounds, choline, inulin, large quantities of minerals such as calcium, sodium, silicic acid, sulfur and in the fresh leaves, a high content of potassium. In skin care and cosmetic it helps clear up many acne, eczema, and other skin eruptions.

DHEA (Dehydroepiandrosterone):
A hormone made by the adrenal glands used by the body to make male (androgen) and female (estrogen) hormones; possible positive effects on mood and energy on older individuals (40+) whose production of DHEA has declined. As been referred to as the 'Fountain of Youth' hormone because it declines rapidly as we age, and supplementation with this hormone reverses many of the ravages associated with aging. Studies show that men with the highest DHEA levels have better cardiovascular health.

Dimethicone (Silica):
Silicone oil used for the protection of normal skin against various skin irritants; may also be used to prevent diaper dermatitis. It forms a breathable barrier to smooth and protect the skin. It is non-comedogenic and allows oxygen in the skin.

DMAE Bitartrate (Dimethylaminoethanol):
DMAE has been known in Europe by the product name Deanol for more than three decades. It is a chemical naturally produced in the human brain. It is thought to be used by the body in converting choline to the neurotransmitter, acetycholine (i.e., it is a precursor to acetycholine). This is the basis for thinking that supplementing with DMAE will enhance brain activity. DMAE has become popular as a result of Dr. Nicholas Perricone, M.D.’s top selling book, The Wrinkle Cure, in which he promotes supplementing with DMAE as a treatment for reducing wrinkles. The reality is DMAE may be the first agent proven in a study to have a positive effect on facial sag. It has been demonstrated that DMAE does cause some degree of skin tightening. It dramatically tightens, firms, and tones the neck, eyelids, and facial muscles, resulting in a lean, toned, and youthful look.

Disodium EDTA:
Sodium or calcium EDTA binds to metals, such as nickel, copper, and iron, making them unavailable to react with other ingredients in a product, or with compounds in the human body. Compounds that act in this way are called sequestering agents, or chelating agents (after the word for the claw of a crab -- chelae). EDTA is used to treat lead and mercury poisoning, as it can lock up those metals so they can do no harm in the body. EDTA also sequesters calcium and magnesium from hard water, preventing them from forming insoluble soap films (scum) with soaps and detergents. Chelators are sometimes used to sequester metal ions that interfere with dyes and perfumes. Compounds with similar functions are sodium carbonate, pentasodium pentetate, sodium citrate, phosphoric acid, tetrasodium etidronate, and tetrasodium pyrophosphate.

Distilled Water:
Herbal Luxuries products contain pure distilled water in its skin care recipes. Distilled water is used to insure that no impurities, heavy metals or fluorides are present. Also to prevent interactions between active skin ingredients and any unwanted minerals.
