Herb - Gotu Kola skin care ingredient
Gotu Kola (Centellia asiatica)

Geranium, Organic Pure Essential Oil of (Pelargonium graveolens):
Because of its rich, sweet, rose-like scent, Geranium pure essential oil is often substituted for the more expensive Rose. Its beneficial skin care and cosmetic properties are numerous and powerful: cell regeneration, tissue repair, toning of skin tissues, oil and sebum regulation. It is astringent and antiseptic, and makes an excellent skin care treatment for acne, eczema and other skin inflammations, balances oily and dry skin, and works wonderfully to reduce cellulite deposits.

Germaben:
Common preservative system used in skin care products that contains the following; Propylene Glycol, Diazolidinyl Urea, Methylparaben, and Propylparaben.

Ginkgo Biloba herb and extract:
Found to locally induce SOD (superoxide dismutase) and to catalase enzyme activity in the epidermis after topical application as well as systemically increase the activity of both enzymes in the liver, the heart and kidneys. Ginkgo is therefore a powerful antioxidant and contributes to the oxidation of free radicals which are believed to contribute to premature aging and dementia. Antioxidants also protect the eyes, cardiovascular system and central nervous system.

Ginseng Extract (Panax ginseng, American):
Ginseng, both American and Asian varieties, has gained recent popularity for their stimulating and energizing properties when ingested. When applied topically in skin care and cosmetic products, Ginseng has anti-inflammatory properties, and will activate cell metabolism and prolong the life span of human cells. It stimulates the biosynthesis of proteins, RNA, and lips. This makes Ginseng a valuable additive to anti-aging creams and lotions.

Gluconolactone:
Second generation polyhydroxy acid that offers distinct advantages over alpha hydroxy acids. It is non-irritating, attracts moisture and forms an occlusive barrier on the skins surface, helps normalize keratinization, has anti-photo-aging effects and enhances wound healing.

Glutathione:
A tripeptide of glutamic acid, cysteine, and glycine. It is found in all active animal tissue. It is fundamental as an antioxidant, and significantly decreased amounts of glutathione are found after UV exposures.

Glycerin, Vegetable:
An odorless, colorless, syrupy derivative of olive oil, glycerin has long been used as a benign solvent, lubricant, and preservative. It is sweet tasting, warming to the skin, and edible. Glycerin is used as an ingredient in edible love oils.  Glycerin is a wonderful emollient (softener) and humectant (attracts and binds moisture), giving it multiple uses and benefits in natural skin care. It serves to keep lotions and creams from drying out and hardening, and at the same time leaves skin moist and soft.

Glycyrrhizic acid (Glycyrrhiza glabra):
Extract from the licorice root obtained by spraying finely cut licorice roots with water, later ethanol is added. Then the filtrate is cleaned and finally the glycyrrhizic acid is obtained. The glycyrrhizic acid is a valued raw material thanks to its equalizing, wound healing and anti-inflammatory effects. Furthermore it is effective against substances with skin irritating and allergy causing effect, something which has been demonstrated by various studies. Glycyrrhizin is a sapon-like glycoside found in licorice root and licorice root extract. It is sometimes used therapeutically to treat gastric ulcers and inflammation of the skin and has been studied for its antiallergic, antiarthritic, anticholinergic, anti-estrogenic, antihepatotoxic and anti-leukemogenic properties.

Glycolic Acid
An alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) contained in sugar cane. AHA's are a relatively new discovery in active botanicals, that are excellent moisturizers and gentle peeling substances. Glycolic acid was the first AHA available and continues to be considered the best. In small concentrations they act as moisturizers, in larger concentrations they have a peeling effect on the skin, exfoliating dead skin cells without any scrubbing action. Glycolic acid is used in high concentrations by dermatologists and estheticians in glycolic peels, where they use a 40% concentration that is ph buffered and leave it on the skin for 30 seconds. Low concentrations (5-20%) can be used daily. 4-12% in a skin care cream or lotion seems to be the average range for daily use products. In concentrations above 8% the mild peeling effect clears the skin of dead skin cells resulting in softer, smoother skin, less noticeable wrinkles and a more radiant complexion.

Golden Seal Root Extract (Hydrastis canadensis):
Goldenseal is native to eastern North America and is cultivated in Oregon and Washington. Jethro Kloss describes this herb as the most wonderful remedies in the entire herb kingdom. It excels in remedies for open sores, inflammations, eczema, ringworm, and other skin diseases.

Gotu Kola Extract/Hydrocotyl (Centellia asiatica):
Gotu Kola is a small, creeping herb, native to India and the islands of the Indian Ocean, where it is known as the ‘elixir of life’ and an ‘apothecary shop’ all in one. When taken internally, it is used to treat and cure a variety of illnesses, including cancer. Applied topically, Gotu Kola Extract calms stressed sensitive skin and speeds healing of wounds, dermatitis and inflammations. It has been used as a tonic for purification of blood and for promoting healthy skin. Researchers have found that Gotu Kola contains several glycosides that exhibit wound healing and anti-inflammatory activities and that asiaticosides simulate the formation of lipids and proteins necessary for healthy skin. Gotu kola affects various stages of tissue development, including keratinization (the process of replacing skin after sores or ulcers), the synthesis of collagen (the first step in tissue repair), the stimulation of hair and nail growth, and support for the repair of cartilage. Gotu kola has been effectively used in the treatment of second and third degree burns. It has been shown to decrease healing time and reduce scar tissue formation. Gotu Kola contains; Vitamins A, B complex, C, K, and is high in magnesium, iron, riboflavin, manganese, phosphorus, sodium, silicon and zinc. It is excellent for dry sensitive skin care formulations but also tones and brightens all skin types.

Green Tea Extract (Camellia sinensis):
Scientific research has shown how the positive effects of Green Tea are a result of the activity of polyphenols, also called tannins, these compounds are potent antioxidants. At Case Western University topical administration of Green Tea resulted in reduction of tumors that occurred following UVB radiation. When applied topically as an addition to skin care and cosmetic creams and lotions, Green Tea Extract makes use of these same anti-oxidant properties to protect the skin from harmful effects of UV radiation and environmental stress and pollution. As such, it can help prevent skin cancers, and combat premature aging and wrinkles. It is excellent for all skin types as a preventative treatment against free radicals. Studies have also shown that Green Tea reduces DHT in the scalp and is therefore helpful for certain forms of hair-loss.

Grapefruit-Pink, Pure Essential Oil of (Citrus paradisi):
Pink Grapefruit pure essential oil helps control the liquid processes and systems of the body. It helps drain excess fluids from the tissues, and stimulates the lymphatic system for more efficient removal of waste and toxins. As such, it makes a valuable addition to cellulite treatments. Grapefruit’s scent is uplifting and energizing.

Grapefruit Seed Extract (Citrus grandis):
As its name implies, this thick, viscous fluid is extracted from the seeds of Grapefruits, yielding a pure, natural non-toxic preservative with strong antimicrobial, antiseptic, antibacterial and antifungal properties. It also serves as an anti-oxidant, keeping oils in skin care lotions and creams from going rancid. Herbal Luxuries use Grapefruit Seed Extract as part of its all-natural preservative system.

Grape Seed Extract (Vitis vinifera):
Grape Seed contains proanthocycanidins which are the most beneficial flavonoids. These exist in many plants and is potent in red wine. This herb is effective against free radicals. Since grape seed extract contains proanthocycanidins, it is 15 to 25 trimes more effective than vitamin E in neutralizing the iron and oxygen of free radicals which attack lipids (fat).

Grape Seed Oil, Unrefined (Vitis vinifera):
Cold-pressed grape seeds yield a silky, light, easily absorbed oil that is high in Vitamin E, essential fatty acids, and minerals. Grape seed oil is a potent free radical scavenger and antioxidant, giving it wonderful anti-aging effect, in particular for skin types that cannot tolerate richer, heavier oils.

Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride:
Guar is a natural gum extracted from the seeds of the Cyanaposis psoroliodes (a member of the pea family) shrub. It is used in cosmetic products as a hair and skin conditioner or thickener.
