Photorejuvenation - Intense Pulse Light Therapies (IPL)
Unlike those cosmetic skin care treatments that remove the outer skin and require significant healing time, intense pulse light therapies (IPL), sometimes called Photo Facials, etc, gently penetrate the skin without damaging it and destroy the blood vessels and brown pigment that are the cause of the problem. Intense Pulse light facials are non-ablative which means that they work without harming the surface of your skin as a means to improve its appearance.
One of the main advantages of these treatments is that you can achieve significant improvement of sun damage skin with no healing or downtime. Depending on the condition being treated and the severity treatments may be done weekly or less frequent with monthly follow-up treatments.
Results will vary but you should expect your skin to appear reddened. You can expect to return to your normal activities immediately with minimal precautions such as sunscreen.
Normally Good For: fine lines, particularly around the eyes and mouth, shallow acne scars, age spots, broken blood vessels, Rosacea and sun damage. This procedure is thought to reduce large pores and dark circles around the eyes and is especially effective in subduing chronic facial redness. It also can be used to treat sun damage and weathered areas on the neck, arms and chest, as well as the back of hands.
Issues for some: The biggest advantage is no downtime (the skin may be a bit pink for a few hours after the treatment). The procedure will not get rid of deeper wrinkles or frown lines, especially on the forehead and between the brows, acne scars and other deep scars.
