I am amazed at how many ingredients are actually used by the skin care and personal care products industry in the manufacturer of products, currently over 12,000. In the race to make more sales, there has been enormous efforts on the part of cosmetic companies to offer new innovative products to consumers. During the past decade, an unprecedented explosion of new high-tech cosmetics has flooded the market worldwide. The chemists are forever creating new ingredients and some of them have been beneficial.
You have to wonder whether this plethora of chemical and synthetic ingredients will make us look younger than our mothers at 60 or will it all turn on us and explode into an epidemic of new diseases, tumors and cancers. Will our quest for the miracle cream backfire?
Even with the new innovations that the chemists have developed for the industry there are still those products that contain less desirable, irritating and possibly damaging ingredients. Since women purchase most of the personal care and cosmetic products sold it is usually up to us to decide what's important for us and our families. If you have small children or infants you should be particularly concerned. Do you know what's in your baby care products? You just might be surprised.
Natural products are the latest buzz in the U.S. personal care industry, driven by consumer demand for healthier products. But are they really natural?
Until recently we have preferred high tech science, and chemistry to create our personal care products. After all we live in a want it now society, instant gratification at any cost. Some of these high tech products add a miniscule amount of herbs or other botanicals and the manufacturer call them natural. These additions although trite have actually misled a lot of consumers, who have no idea what the ingredients are on the product label, into thinking they are buying products that are for the most part natural. The industry knows this and amazingly it's still working.
Each individual decides what personal care products they will use and why. Hopefully consumers will begin to educate themselves about the ingredients in the products they use and make informed choices. It's no longer enough to rely on a particular brand name when selecting a product. Just picking up any cleanser, cream or lotion at the drug or department store may be the last thing your skin needs.
Yes it does takes some effort to change and sometimes it is not always convenient. Perhaps you don't have a natural skin care source in your area, try shopping on the web, we ship all over the US and to some international locations.
Remember to be careful of those stores or manufacturers that do not list all the ingredients in their products. If they can't tell you everything that's in it, don't buy it. Don't let them tell you what it can do for your skin or body with out telling you all of what's in it. If it's as good as they say, what do they have to hide.
